Tre personer dansar till pulserande ravemusik i nästan en timme utan avbrott. De enda pauserna som tas är för att i rasande tempo tömma plastglas med vatten, innan rörelsen fortsätter. Obevekligt. Slag för slag, beat för beat.
The Butterfly Who Flew Into The Rave är en fysisk uthållighetsföreställning som pressar både kropp och publik till gränsen. Med rötter i internationell undergroundkultur skapas ett sceniskt rum som känns lika mycket klubb som koreografisk ritual. Energin är häpnadsväckande och som åskådare dras man in i ett tillstånd som pendlar mellan meditation och extas. Det monotona blir hypnotiskt, det repetitiva blir explosivt. Kropparna slits, svetten flödar, och det som börjar som eufori övergår gradvis i något råare och mer utmattande.
Föreställningen destillerar tre dygns festande till en enda intensiv timme. Rörelsespråket hämtar vokabulär från techno- och ravekulturen och utforskar kroppen som både motor och offer; för musik, för passion och för människans ständiga drift att fortsätta, prestera och vinna, om och om igen.
En ritual av svett, smärta och njutning. Ett rasande koncentrat av ravekultur, uthållighet och mänsklig besatthet. En föreställning som inte liknar något annat.
Oli Mathiesen är koreograf och dansare baserad i Nya Zeeland. Med utgångspunkt i urfolksidentitet, politik och queerfrågor skapar han verk som rör sig mellan det personliga och det kollektiva. Hans prisbelönta The Butterfly Who Flew Into The Rave har turnerat internationellt och visats vid festivaler i bland annat Edinburgh, Melbourne och Sydney.
På scen medverkar Lucy Lynch och Sharvon Mortimer, två dansare verksamma inom den samtida dansscenen i Aotearoa Nya Zeeland, med erfarenhet av såväl scenproduktioner som tvärdisciplinära projekt.
Föreställningen är skapad till albumet Nocturbulous Behaviour (2010) av Detroitproducenten Suburban Knight. Den råa Detroit-technon driver verket framåt i ett intensivt, pulserande flöde där ravekulturens extas och motståndets energi tar kropp på scenen.

Three people dance to pulsating rave music for almost an hour without interruption. The only breaks are to empty plastic glasses of water at a furious pace, before the movement continues. Relentless. Stroke by stroke, beat by beat.
The Butterfly Who Flew Into The Rave is a physical endurance performance that pushes both body and audience to the limit. With roots in international underground culture, a scenic space is created that feels as much club as choreographic ritual. The energy is astonishing and as a spectator you are drawn into a state that oscillates between meditation and ecstasy. The monotonous becomes hypnotic, the repetitive becomes explosive. Bodies are torn, sweat flows, and what starts as euphoria gradually turns into something rawer and more exhausting.
The performance distills three days of partying into a single intense hour. The movement language draws vocabulary from techno and rave culture and explores the body as both engine and victim; of music, of passion and of the human drive to continue, perform and win, over and over again.
A ritual of sweat, pain and pleasure. A furious concentrate of rave culture, endurance and human obsession. A performance unlike any other.
Oli Mathiesen is a choreographer and dancer based in New Zealand. Drawing on indigenous identity, politics and queer issues, he creates works that move between the personal and the collective. His award-winning The Butterfly Who Flew Into The Rave has toured internationally and been shown at festivals in Edinburgh, Melbourne and Sydney, among others.
On stage will be Lucy Lynch and Sharvon Mortimer, two dancers active in the contemporary dance scene in Aotearoa New Zealand, with experience in both stage productions and interdisciplinary projects.
The performance is created for the album Nocturbulous Behaviour (2010) by Detroit producer Suburban Knight. The raw Detroit techno drives the work forward in an intense, pulsating flow where the ecstasy of rave culture and the energy of resistance take shape on stage.
