En bok av Johan Hilton om Anthony Perkins och tiden som skapade Norman Bates
Alfred Hitchcocks film Psycho skrämde slag på 1960-talets biobesökare och har med tiden blivit århundradets mest berömda skräckfilm. För Anthony Perkins, som spelade huvudrollen som mördaren Norman Bates, gick det inte lika bra. I en tid då det offentliga USA såg förrädare överallt, och där många homosexuella sparkades från statsförvaltningen, blev den mammabundne och misstänkt fjollige Norman Bates en ödesdiger figur att förknippas med. Rollen blev en dödsstöt för Anthony Perkins karriär.
Johan Hilton (född 1977) är journalist, författare och förlagschef på Atlas. Han debuterade 2005 med reportageboken No tears for queers. Monster i garderoben är hans första bok på Natur & Kultur.
I samband med Cinemateket filmvisning av Psycho på Biograf Capitol presenterar Atalante ett samtal med Johan Hilton i Atalantes foajé. Baren är öppen och smörgåsar till försäljning.

Alfred Hitchcocks movie Psycho scared the life out of moviegoers in the sixties and has become the most famous horror film of the century. To Anthony Perkins, who portrayed the main character and killer Norman Bates, things did not work out as well. In a time when the official USA saw traitors everywhere and homosexuals where kicked out of the public administration, the motherloving, sissy boy Norman Bates was a ominous character to be associated with. The role became the death blow to his career.
Johan Hilton is a journalist, writer and head of publishing at Atlas. He made his debut as a writer in 2005 with the documentary book No tears for queers. Monsters in the closet is his first book at Natur & Kultur publishing house. In connection with the Cinemateket screening of Psycho at Cinema Capitol, Atalante presents a talk with Johan Hilton in our foyer. The bar is open and sandwiches will be for sale.
